Jeuk, an ‘illegal’ participation, or maybe a better description would be ‘outside of the registered participations’ of the Kunstvlaai. Without filling in any forms, without occupying themselves with the administration that generally proceeds to the actual participation, Jeuk installed their works in the public space of the Kunstvlaai. Who pays a good look at the details around the buildings might notice some ornaments that have recently been dedicated with the label ‘art’. Next to some ordinary, but also extra ordinary objects that attracted their gaze, Jeuk has put an art information sign. The objects, normally overlooked, now come with a title and an explanation. Whether the explanation makes sense is another discussion. In Jeuk’s own words; “The text is incomprehensible, but beautiful and basically just bullshit”.Very recently, December 2007, a group of 6 – an art director, a package designer, a graffiti artist/graphic designer, a painter and 2 creative brains from the world of advertisement – united in an art collective with the purpose to do exactly those things that are impossible in the commissioned creative sector such as advertising. The works of Jeuk are breaking the boundaries of politics, business restrictions and commissions. That explains the name of the group; JEUK- tickle, itch. That is their own criterion for what they produce, it has to tickle. With this, the Kunstvlaai has another contribution that plays with and winks at the sometimes pretentious world of art. (IR)
